ENCOMPASS ANNUAL FUND

Your gift to The Theory of Everything Fund helps support the world premiere of composer John David Earnest and Nancy Rhodes’ new music drama tracing the journey of a Brazilian quantum physicist and his family, as dramatic events catapult a metaphysical and scientific search into other dimensions and alternate universes. The opera traces the journey of a Brazilian quantum physicist who is studying fundamental connections between science and the ancient wisdom of the Q'ero Tribe in Peru.

Unheard Voices: An Immigrant’s Dream

Inspired by his Indigenous roots and deep family ties in El Salvador, and the emotional impact of the displacement of native cultures, Oswaldo Iraheta, gathered music from Central and South America, Italy, and North America, into a collage exploring his and his family's immigrant journey. The songs, Nube, Misterio, Ángel, Why Can't I Let You Go, El Nido, Polo, By the River, and Ideale evoke memories and emotions as he strolls through a beautiful park. The music and nature reveal deep reflections of the wisdom he inherited from his ancestors, and restores a sense of his own truth and purpose. His dream is woven from the beauty and strength of his family, the country he loves so well, while living in a new land of possibility.

Your donations will significantly support our adventurous music theatre productions, as well as our concerts and galas, which provide opportunities for new composers, singers, and musicians. Your gift to our annual fund helps Encompass present educational and outreach programs such as Music for Peace, Angel of the Amazon, and Paradigm Shifts: Music and Film Festival. ANGEL OF THE AMAZON

Following the successful Encompass performances in November 2022 of ANGEL OF THE AMAZON, we are now planning a tour to high schools, colleges, and university arts centers of this compelling true story of Sister Dorothy Stang (1931-2005). Sister Dorothy courageously devoted her life to helping indigenous families of Brazil gain land rights and to protecting the Rainforest. ANGEL OF THE AMAZON is a centerpiece of the Encompass Paradigm Shifts Festival, dedicated to bridging indigenous cultures, women’s wisdom, and the environmental-social justice issues that explore our place in the universe.

EDMONIA, by composer Bill Banfield, is based on the true story of Edmonia Lewis, a Black and Native American (Ojibwa) artist who attains an international reputation as a sculptor; and yet her life was tragically forgotten, until her most famous piece, the Death of Cleopatra (1875) is discovered, lost in a Chicago public park. Driving the narrative, is the question... what happens or what do we miss, if we don’t discover our rich cultural heritage?
